Rumors swirled on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday morning, suggesting that San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk had requested a trade from the team.

However, Aiyuk’s agent, Ryan Williams of Athletes First, was quick to dismiss these rumors, stating that the source was unreliable.

In a tweet responding to the self-proclaimed NFL insider John Frascella who started the rumor, Williams simply said, “You need better sources.” This response indicates that Aiyuk did not actually request a trade from the 49ers.

This social media buzz comes on the heels of Aiyuk unfollowing the 49ers on Instagram a few days earlier. In February, following the 49ers’ loss in Super Bowl LVIII to the Kansas City Chiefs, Aiyuk posted a cryptic message on his Instagram story, saying “Don’t forget what got you there.”

Aiyuk is currently in the final year of his rookie contract with the 49ers, playing on a fifth-year option before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2025. Despite the recent social media activity, it appears that Aiyuk remains committed to the team for the time being.
