Former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis tragically passed away today at the age of 35 at his grandmother’s home in Florida. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of his death, but there is no evidence of foul play at the scene.

According to reports from the WSVN network, the Davie Police and Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the home of Adeline Davis in Southwest Ranches, Florida, where Vontae Davis was found.

Numerous sports personalities have expressed their condolences on social media after hearing of Davis’ passing. Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay shared, “Extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Vontae Davis. A great guy, teammate, player. My prayers to Vontae’s family.”

University of Illinois basketball team assistant coach Chester Frazier remembered Davis fondly, saying, “We lost a great today!!! RIP TO @vontaedavis. Man, nothing but good memories of that dude in school!!! Praying for the Davis family!!”

Davis’ childhood friend Bobby Maze also shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, reflecting on their friendship and the impact Davis had on his life.

Throughout his career, Vontae Davis played for the Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, and Buffalo Bills. He made headlines in 2018 when he abruptly retired from the Bills during halftime of a game against the Los Angeles Chargers, citing that he no longer wanted to play football.

In a statement following his retirement, Davis described the decision as “therapeutic” and indicated that he had come to a realization about his desire to continue playing the sport.
