The Houston Texans have once again made a big move, this time acquiring Stefon Diggs in a trade on Wednesday.

This four-time Pro Bowler is set to give Houston the true No. 1 wide receiver they have been missing, and the team is continuing to bolster their offense for quarterback C.J. Stroud.

In exchange for Diggs, the Buffalo Bills will receive a 2025 second-round pick, along with a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round selection. Stroud now has another key piece to work with, and the Texans have added a high-value wide receiver whose contract allows for an out after 2024 if he does not perform as expected.

Houston had an impressive 2023 season, finishing with a 10-7 record and winning a playoff game. This was a significant improvement from their 3-13-1 record in 2022. Despite their success, the Texans identified areas that needed improvement heading into the offseason, namely the lack of a top running back and a true No. 1 receiver.

Last month, the Texans acquired running back Joe Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for a 2024 seventh-round pick. Mixon, a former Pro Bowler, rushed for over 1,000 yards in 2023 and has been a consistent producer both on the ground and as a receiver out of the backfield. This was a smart move to add a productive player at a reasonable cost.

While wide receivers Nico Collins and Tank Dell, along with tight end Dalton Schultz, had solid performances in 2023, none of them fit the mold of a true No. 1 target. Diggs, on the other hand, has consistently performed at a Pro Bowl level over the past four seasons and led the league in receptions during that time.

With Diggs now in the mix, Stroud, who was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2023, is poised to build on his impressive debut season. Having a player of Diggs’ caliber as his top target will undoubtedly make it easier for Stroud to continue to excel in the upcoming season.

The addition of Diggs, along with Mixon, represents a significant upgrade for the Texans offense, and fans can expect an even more dynamic and explosive team in the upcoming season.
