Two weeks after the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, the city’s beloved sports teams, the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, have joined forces to assist in the recovery and relief efforts for the community.
The Ravens and Orioles have each contributed $5 million, totaling a generous $10 million donation towards the Baltimore Community Foundation’s Maryland Tough Baltimore Strong Key Bridge Fund. This announcement was made on Friday afternoon, showcasing the teams’ dedication to supporting their city in a time of need.
Ravens team owner Steve Bisciotti expressed his honor in being able to help with the Francis Scott Key Bridge recovery efforts and assist the families and businesses affected by the tragedy. Similarly, Orioles owner David M. Rubenstein highlighted the collaboration with Governor Wes Moore in providing this contribution to support the essential individuals who uphold the city, state, and country’s operations.
The Maryland Tough Baltimore Strong Key Bridge Fund was created to offer a secure channel for Baltimore residents and concerned individuals to contribute to the recovery and resilience of the city following the devastating incident on March 26. During the early hours of that day, a container ship malfunctioned and collided with the bridge, resulting in its collapse and causing individuals and vehicles to be thrown into the Patapsco River. Tragically, six individuals lost their lives in the collapse.
Both the Ravens and Orioles have shared links on their social media platforms, including Twitter, providing information on how the public can contribute to the fund. This collaborative effort between the sports teams and the community serves as a testament to the unity and support that Baltimoreans can rely on during challenging times.
