The Las Vegas Raiders are gearing up for the upcoming season with a revamped running back situation. After opting not to re-sign star running back Josh Jacobs, the Raiders are turning to a younger player to take the reins in the backfield.
The team had already prepared for Jacobs’ potential departure when they selected running back Zamir White in the draft a few seasons ago. White, who spent his first two seasons primarily on special teams, patiently waited for his opportunity to shine.
With Jacobs dealing with injuries and a decline in performance last season, White stepped up and proved himself as a capable starter. The Raiders also added veteran back Ameer Abdullah and signed Alexander Mattison to create a strong trio of running backs.
Abdullah brings versatility and skill in catching the ball out of the backfield, while White has shown his ability to grind out tough yards. Mattison adds a mix of physicality and speed to the group, giving the Raiders multiple options in their run game.
With either a young or veteran quarterback leading the offense next season, the success of the Raiders’ offense will heavily rely on how Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy utilizes their talented group of running backs.
