The Carolina Panthers’ defense is undergoing a transformation in 2024, with defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero expressing optimism about the changes.

Several new players with ties to Evero have joined the team, including Josey Jewell, A’Shawn Robinson, Jordan Fuller, Jadeveon Clowney, Dane Jackson, and D.J. Wonnum. Evero believes that the influx of these experienced players could lead to significant improvements this season.

Speaking about the new roster, Evero stated, “I’m really, really, really excited about the group of guys that we have right now. These first four days have just been really exciting, and we know that we’ve got a lot of talented football players. The football dialogue among the players is at a high level, which is very encouraging.”

While the Panthers’ defense finished fourth in total defense last season, they struggled in scoring defense, ranking 29th in the league. The addition of players who have previously worked with Evero in successful environments is expected to strengthen the team’s culture and performance.

Evero highlighted the familiarity of the players with the defensive system and their communication skills as key factors contributing to the team’s progress. Despite losing some key defenders in the offseason, Evero is confident in the team’s starting point compared to the previous year.

The focus for the Panthers will be on improving their run defense, which ranked 23rd in the league last season. Evero emphasized the importance of the defensive line in stopping the run and expressed excitement about the potential for growth in that area.
