Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn is making waves as he kicks off his first offseason program in Washington.
While most coaches use this time to focus on X’s and O’s, Quinn is taking a different approach by prioritizing connection and competition within the team.
To foster a deeper connection among players and coaches, Quinn assigned a unique homework assignment at the start of the program. Each member was asked to create a PowerPoint presentation detailing their personal story, giving insight into their motivations and goals. Quinn believes that building strong relationships is the key to successful coaching, allowing for more impactful mentorship and growth on and off the field.
Quinn’s emphasis on personal development and self-reflection stems from a transformative experience following his departure from the Atlanta Falcons in 2020.
Instead of wallowing in defeat, Quinn sought feedback from peers and colleagues through a 360 review, conducted by Fox sideline reporter Laura Okmin. The results of this review provided valuable insights into Quinn’s coaching style, leading to improvements in time management and delegation.
Now, with a fresh start in Washington and armed with the No. 2 pick in the NFL draft, Quinn is focused on finding the right fit for the team’s quarterback position. Through a thorough evaluation process, including pro days and private workouts, Quinn is collaborating with GM Adam Peters to make an informed decision that will shape the future of the franchise.
Despite the challenges and pressures of the upcoming draft, Quinn remains dedicated to staying present and focused on the task at hand. By delegating responsibilities and maintaining a strategic approach to his daily schedule, Quinn aims to optimize his time and maximize productivity in preparation for the season ahead.
