Danny Gray was now eligible to transfer to any school of his choice, and he had settled to transfer to TCU over offers from Auburn, Baylor, Texas Tech, and Tennessee for his final two seasons.

During the transfer process, Danny Gray had a change in mind and opted to go to SMU instead. At SMU he became an immediate starter and was named first-team All-American Athletic Conference as a senior.
