Stefon Marsean Diggs, an American football wide receiver with the National Football League’s (NFL) Buffalo Bills, was born on November 29, 1993.
In the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings selected him out of Maryland’s collegiate football program.
Despite being selected in the late rounds of the draft, Diggs started for the Vikings as a full-time starter halfway through his first season.
His career highlights include catching the “Minneapolis Miracle” pass during the 2017–18 NFL playoffs. He and Adam Thielen became a potent receiving duo.
Diggs signed a 5-year extension the following summer, playing two more seasons in Minnesota before being sent to Buffalo in 2020. He set Eric Moulds’ franchise record for receiving yards in a season and became the fastest receiver to reach 100 receptions with his new team while playing for the Bills. With 127 catches and 1,535 receiving yards, Diggs had the most among all NFL receivers in 2020.
Where did Stefon Diggs go to college and did he play college football?
Diggs got an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Maryland in College Park, where he participated in football from 2012 to 2014 for coach Randy Edsall’s Maryland Terrapins.
Diggs played wide receiver and on special teams in 11 of Maryland’s 12 games as a true freshman in 2012, missing just one game due to an ankle ailment.
His 172.4 all-purpose yards per game placed him second in the ACC and sixth overall, and his 1,896 all-purpose yards were the second-most in a single season in school history, only behind Torrey Smith’s 2,192 yards in 2009.
He had the second-best kick return average (28.5), the fifth-best punt return average (10.0), and the fifth-best receiving yards (77.1/game) in the league.
In terms of catches, receiving yards (848), and touchdown receptions, he was the team leader. He caught three catches for 30 yards and returned three punts for 50 yards in his first collegiate game against William & Mary.
