Freeda V. Kirkpatrick was the second wife of Jim Thorpe who was born into a Christian religious home. His parents were both Roman Catholic.

He is the son of Hiram Thorpe and Charlotte Vieux. Hiram and Charlotte are both of mixed-race ancestry. Hiram had an Irish father and a Sac and Fox Indian mother, and Charlotte had a French father and a Potawatomi mother, a descendant of Chief Louis Vieux.

Thorpe was widely known as an American athlete and Olympic gold medalist. A member of the Sac and Fox Nation, Thorpe was the first Native American to win a gold medal for the United States in the Olympics.

He was considered one of the most versatile athletes of modern sports, he won two Olympic gold medals in the 1912 Summer Olympics (one in classic pentathlon and the other in decathlon).

Freeda Verona Kirkpatrick was the second wife of Jim Thorpe. She was known to have worked for the manager of the baseball team for which Thorpe was playing at the time in 1926 and got married.

They had four sons namely Phillip, William, Richard, and John Thorpe. Kirkpatrick divorced Thorpe in 1941 after they had been married for 15 years.

Freeda was born in West Virginia on September 19, 1905, to her parents William Ira Kirkpatrick her father, and Iona Blanche Smith her mother.

There was no cause of death for Freeda V. Kirkpatrick. It was believed her death was natural, and the nursing home where she was taking care of confirmed her death.

She died at the age of 101, on February 3, 2007, in Yakima, Yakima, Washington. She was white and holds an American nationality.

Her survivors include three sons, William Thorpe of Texas, and Jack Thorpe and Richard Thorpe, both of Oklahoma; a sister, Margaret Obenaur of Missouri; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
