With the franchise quarterback signed to a massive extension, the Ravens took a huge step to bolster their receiving corps by drafting Boston College standout Zay Flowers.
Flowers, widely regarded as one of the best wide receivers in the draft class, has the speed and agility to blow by defenders and be a deep threat. His ability to create separation from defenders is among the best in the class and should give Jackson another reliable weapon in the passing game.
The Ravens’ passing attack struggled at times last season, and the addition of Flowers and the free-agent signings of Odell Beckham Jr. and Nelson Agholor should help alleviate some of those issues. Jackson now has a talented group of receivers to work with, something he has not had in his young career.
Flowers, who was considered a first-round talent by many draft experts, expressed excitement at the prospect of playing with Jackson.
“Anytime I touch the ball, I feel like I can score,” Flowers said in an interview after being drafted. “And with Lamar throwing me the ball, I know I’ll have plenty of opportunities to make plays.”
Jackson’s request for a trade earlier in the offseason created uncertainty for the team, but the signing of the extension and the addition of Flowers indicate that the Ravens are committed to building around their franchise quarterback.
