Are there any Asian NFL players?

Will Demps

Will Demps has formerly played for the Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans, and New York Giants. The American football safety is the older brother of fellow NFL safety, Marcus Demps.

While he went undrafted in the 2002 draft, he was signed by the Baltimore Ravens in 2002 and played for them from 2002 to 2005. In the offseason of 2006, he signed with the New York Giants and started all 16 games.

He signed with the Houston Texans in 2007 and appeared in 15 games before being released in 2009.

Hines Ward

Ward was born in South Korea and went on to play collegiate football at the University of Georgia.

He went on to play with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he became one of the finest wide receivers the team has ever produced. Taylor Rapp, a 2019 NFL draft hopeful, questioned the unjust stereotype that many hold about Asian-descent players.

He did, however, receive a lot of support, with Ward telling him how he had heard that Asians couldn’t play football before. He learned, however, to channel that negativity and utilize it to drive his desire.

Rapp appears to have taken Ward’s insightful remarks about Asian Americans to heart, as he continues to have a fantastic career.

Ward also pursued teaching and served as an offensive intern with his old squad in 2017 before beginning his coaching career as an offensive assistant with the New York Jets.

Tedy Bruschi

Tedy Bruschi’s mother was born in the Philippines. The linebacker played 13 seasons in the NFL, winning three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots. He was named to the All-Pro team twice.

He was picked in the third round in 1996 and retired in 2009. He was a defensive end at the University of Arizona before being converted to a linebacker when he joined the Patriots.

While not many players want to shift positions, Bruschi did not whine about it, and his reward was a 13-year career that made him one of the finest linebackers to have played for the Patriots.

Min Long Lee

Lee was the first Korean footballer to play in the National Football League. The Arizona Cardinals selected the kicker in the second round of the 1986 NFL Draft. He was a huge draft pick since kickers are rarely picked that high.
