Nyheim Hines is counting his blessings after a near-career-ending injury that sidelined him for the entire 2023 season.

The running back recently signed a one-year deal with the Browns after suffering a torn ACL while jet skiing last July. The injury occurred when Hines was hit by another rider, leading to a long road of recovery and rehabilitation.

In a recent interview on the Up & Adams Show, Hines reflected on the freak accident that turned his world upside down. “It was a freak accident, but I’ve learned my lessons from that mistake. I won’t put myself in the situation to even miss the season off the field,” said Hines.

Despite the challenges he faced, Hines is making progress in his recovery and is optimistic about returning to the field. “I’m feeling a lot better than I did even a month ago. There’s been progress,” Hines shared. “I don’t wish an ACL surgery on anybody. It’s tough the first two or three months, but you start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel in Month 4, 5, 6, 7.”

As Hines continues to focus on his rehabilitation, he is eager to contribute to the Browns’ running back rotation, especially alongside star back Nick Chubb. The Browns have emphasized a conservative approach to Chubb’s recovery, potentially opening up opportunities for Hines to showcase his abilities on the field.

Known for his speed and agility, Hines has six career kick-return touchdowns under his belt, highlighting his game-changing potential. While he enjoys making big plays in the return game, Hines is determined to prove himself as a versatile running back as well. “I’ve been hearing the whole return-specialist thing — I’m not that,” he asserted. “I believe I play offense, but returning is something I love to do as well. But I like to do both.”
