Chris Smith, an American defensive end in the National Football League (NFL), played professional football from February 11, 1992, to April 17, 2023. He represented the Arkansas Razorbacks in collegiate football.
In the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft, Smith was chosen by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also participated in games with the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals.
Smith studied at Mount Ulla, North Carolina’s West Rowan High School. He recorded 16.5 sacks and 98 tackles as a senior.

In six games as a true freshman in 2010, Smith had three tackles. He made 13 appearances with three starts as a sophomore in 2011.
He made 31 stops and had 3.5 sacks. He had 52 tackles and 9.5 sacks in 2012 as a junior while starting all 12 games. In 12 games as a senior in 2013, he recorded 37 tackles and 8.5 sacks.
In 2013, Smith finished as a second-team All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) selection as a senior.
The Jacksonville Jaguars picked Smith, 159th overall, in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. In a deal that transferred Eugene Monroe to the Baltimore Ravens, the selection that was used to draft Smith was also acquired.
On September 13, 2014, the Jaguars released him. He was then added to their practice squad two days later. On October 20, he was added to the active roster.
Smith was traded by the Jacksonville Jaguars to the Cincinnati Bengals on April 11, 2017, in exchange for a 2018 conditional draft selection. Smith was hired to improve a Bengals defence that had 19th-most sacks in the league the previous year. His career-high 26 tackles and three sacks came as he was active in all 16 games.
Smith and the Cleveland Browns agreed to a three-year contract on March 14, 2018. He had two starts out of his 16 games played, finishing with 21 total tackles, one sack, two passes defended, and one forced fumble.
On December 3, 2019, the Browns released Smith. He participated in nine games but only made one tackle.
