The Indianapolis Colts are making sure to solidify their secondary for the upcoming season.
According to a report by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Colts are re-signing safety Julian Blackmon to a one-year deal.
Blackmon, who was ranked No. 35 on Gregg Rosenthal’s top 101 free agents list and was one of the top remaining free agents before this signing, joins a group of key defensive backs returning to the Colts.
He will be alongside safety Ronnie Harrison and cornerback Kenny Moore II, who celebrated the news of Blackmon’s return by posting a picture of themselves together on social media.
The third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Blackmon had an impressive rookie year with two interceptions, six passes defended, and a forced fumble in 15 games played. Unfortunately, he suffered a torn Achilles during his second season, which limited his impact on the field.
However, Blackmon bounced back in 2023 with a career-best season, recording 88 tackles, eight passes defended, four interceptions, and two fumble recoveries.
With Blackmon back in the lineup, the Colts are hoping to continue their defensive success and make a strong push for the playoffs in the upcoming season.
