College and draft
Parish redshirted as a true freshman at Houston in 2017. Despite being recruited as a linebacker, he was swiftly moved to defensive end. The next season, he participated in all 13 games, making 21 tackles. In 2019, he started four games and had 38 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, and 2.0 sacks. During the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season, Parish appeared in all eight games, starting five of them, and had 25 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, and 3.5 sacks, the latter two ranking third on the squad. That year, he returned a fumble 85 yards for a touchdown against South Florida.
Parish started all 14 games in 2021, earning second-team All-American Athletic Conference (AAC) honours with 56 tackles, 12.5 TFLs, and 5.5 sacks. He had hip surgery at the beginning of 2022, followed by surgery for a fractured bone in his hand, which required him to play with a club in his hand. He was chosen team captain, and in the second game of the 2022 season, against Texas Tech, Parish established an AAC record with 412 sacks, 6.5 TFLs, and a forced fumble, earning him national defensive player of the week honours.
However, in the fourth game of the season, he sustained a season-ending torn bicep injury. Throughout the season, he recorded 20 tackles, 5.0 sacks, and 8.5 TFLs.
