Even though Kader Kohou faced challenges in his second NFL season, his significant playing time with the Miami Dolphins earned him the fifth-highest playing time pay boost for the 2023 season.

Kohou, a former standout from Texas A&M-Commerce, defied the odds by making it onto the Dolphins roster as an undrafted rookie in 2022. He quickly rose to become the team’s top nickel cornerback, starting 13 out of the 15 games he played in his rookie season.

Despite his promising start, Kohou struggled in his expanded role in Miami’s defense last season. He allowed a high completion rate of 81.9% and eight touchdowns in the 17 games he played. Additionally, his cumulative passer rating when targeted by opposing quarterbacks was 131.0, indicating a tough season for the young cornerback.

However, Kohou’s 938 defensive snaps earned him an extra $878,167 in pay, thanks to a program that rewards lower-salary players with high playtime percentages. This Performance-Based Pay program distributed a total of $393.8 million to NFL players for their performances in 2023.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Kohou is expected to compete with other cornerbacks on the Dolphins roster for the nickel and dime cornerback role. The coaching staff remains confident in Kohou’s abilities and believes that his second-year struggles will fuel his growth and improvement.

As the Dolphins aim to strengthen their cornerback depth for the upcoming season, Kohou will have the opportunity to bounce back and prove himself on the field.
