The Miami Dolphins have decided to extend Raheem Mostert’s contract for another season after his impressive Pro Bowl performance in 2023.

Mostert, who had a standout season rushing for 1,012 yards and scoring a franchise-record 21 touchdowns in 15 games, was set to earn just over $2.7 million in base salary and bonuses in the final year of his two-year contract worth $5.6 million.

Although the exact details of the extension were not disclosed, reports suggest that the deal could be worth up to $9 million if all incentives are met. It is speculated that Mostert may have received a raise for the upcoming season, with possibly some of his 2024 base salary converted into bonuses to help clear cap space for the Dolphins.

Despite efforts to pursue other high-profile running backs last season, Mostert emerged as the leading rusher for Miami until he suffered a high ankle sprain that sidelined him for the last two regular-season games. The Dolphins also reworked Jeff Wilson’s contract, reducing his salary significantly for the season, and re-signed Salvon Ahmed to a one-year deal near the NFL minimum.

In addition to Mostert, Wilson, Ahmed, and De’Von Achane, who had an outstanding rookie season in 2023, will compete for carries in the upcoming season. Chris Brooks, a second-year player who impressed in training camp and preseason, is also on the roster.

Mostert is not only valued for his on-field performance but also as a team leader, having a special relationship with head coach Mike McDaniel dating back to their time together in San Francisco. The Dolphins are hopeful that Mostert’s extension will further strengthen their backfield and contribute to their success in the upcoming season.
