With the 2023 NFL Draft just around the corner, the Dallas Cowboys are facing a tough decision. Should they choose Bijan Robinson from Texas or Jahmyr Gibbs from Alabama?
According to NFL Network’s Maurice Jones-Drew, the Cowboys should go for Gibbs, who he believes is the better player. In his recent mock draft, Jones-Drew had Philadelphia selecting Robinson with the No. 10 pick and Dallas selecting Gibbs with the No. 26 pick.
Gibbs, who ran a 4.36 40-yard dash at the combine, is faster than Robinson (4.46) and is a more adept pass-catcher. Last season, he caught 44 receptions for 444 yards in 12 games, while Robinson had 19 receptions for 314 yards in the same number of games. Gibbs is also highly regarded by teams due to the weak wide receiver class this year, as many believe he can line up in the slot.
Adding Gibbs to the team would also provide a viable threat to Dallas’ passing game. He and Pro Bowl RB Tony Pollard, who was seventh in yards per carry (5.2) last season, could form a dynamic backfield tandem.
“(Gibbs) and Pollard may have the same type of burst, the same type of game,” said Jones-Drew. “Now you have one guy that can go the distance for 80 yards and another one that can take it from 80 yards out. It just put stress on a defense.”
However, if the Cowboys want Robinson, they may need to trade up in the draft, which could be a risky proposition. Gibbs, on the other hand, might be available when Dallas makes its selection at No. 26.
Ultimately, the decision between Gibbs and Robinson comes down to personal preference. But with both players being fantastic prospects, Dallas can’t go wrong with either of them. Perhaps the Cowboys should wait and select Gibbs since there may not be a significant gap between him and Robinson.
