The New York Jets have made a significant move to bolster their pass rush by acquiring Haason Reddick in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.
After losing linebacker Bryce Huff in free agency, the Jets identified the need for help off the edge and found their solution in Reddick.
In exchange for the talented edge rusher, the Jets will be sending a conditional 2026 third-round pick to the Eagles.
However, this pick could potentially become a second-rounder if Reddick meets certain playing and performance criteria. Reddick had been granted permission to seek a trade from the Eagles after they reworked Josh Sweat’s contract and signed Huff away from the Jets.
Reddick had a standout season in 2022 with the Eagles, recording a career-high 16 sacks and earning second team All-Pro honors. In 2023, he continued his strong play with 11 sacks and 13 tackles for loss.
His addition to the Jets’ defense is expected to make a significant impact, especially after the departure of their leading sack artist, Bryce Huff.
The Jets’ pass rush ranked seventh in the league in 2023, with Huff leading the team in sacks. With Reddick joining the likes of John Franklin-Myers, Jermaine Johnson, Micheal Clemons, and Will McDonald, the Jets’ defense will have a formidable rotation of edge rushers under the guidance of head coach Robert Saleh.
The move to acquire Reddick is a clear indication that the Jets are in “win now” mode as they aim to capitalize on the remaining years of quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ contract.
The team has made several key acquisitions this offseason, including tackles Morgan Moses and Tyron Smith, as well as wide receiver Mike Williams. The trade for Reddick further solidifies the Jets’ commitment to contending for a playoff spot in the upcoming season.
