The American football coach Kevin O’Connell is the head coach of the National Football League’s (NFL) Minnesota Vikings. The New England Patriots selected him in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft as a quarterback out of San Diego State.
O’Connell later played for the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and San Diego Chargers before retiring in 2012.
Before being hired as the head coach of the Vikings in 2022, O’Connell started coaching in 2015 as an assistant with the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins, and Los Angeles Rams.
O’Connell was appointed head coach of the Minnesota Vikings on February 16, 2022, becoming the 11th head coach in the team’s history. He and Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins were reunited. O’Connell had previously trained Cousins in 2017 while serving as the quarterback’s coach for the Washington Redskins.
