Legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick may have recently left the New England Patriots, but he is far from stepping away from the game he loves.
Most recently, Belichick paid a visit to Washington to assist his son, Steve Belichick, who serves as the defensive coordinator for the Huskies. Additionally, he was a guest speaker at a coaches’ clinic at Nebraska, where he left quite an impression on Cornhuskers coach Matt Rhule.
Rhule was in awe of Belichick’s vast football knowledge and ability to simplify complex concepts. “He is so smart, and has seen so much, that he can make the complex so simple, and it humbles you and embarrasses you,” Rhule admitted.
With a coaching career that dates back to 1975 and a impressive record of 302-165 in the NFL, Belichick is regarded as an “American football historian.” During his time at Nebraska, he spent four and a half hours with the coaching staff, impressing them with his expertise.
Recalling the experience, Rhule humorously mentioned, “Three and a half hours in I was like, ‘Coach, would you like a water? A coffee? Would you like to use the restroom?’ Because I desperately had to use the restroom. He was like, ‘I’m fine, man.’ I was like, ‘Yes, sir.'”
Belichick’s dedication to sharing his knowledge and expertise with up-and-coming coaches continues to inspire and educate those in the football community.
