After a period of uncertainty following the 2023 NFL season, Carson Wentz wasted no time in securing his next chapter by signing a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2024 campaign.
The former No. 2 overall pick’s decision to join the Chiefs was influenced by former teammate Nick Foles, who had spoken highly of coaches Andy Reid and Matt Nagy, both of whom Foles had worked with during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chiefs.
“I remember all the good things [Foles] had to say about his time here,” Wentz said, reflecting on Foles’ endorsement of the Chiefs. “He absolutely loved it. He loved working with those guys, and those things he said to me back then definitely still rang true in my head as I was making this decision. Those things were definitely a factor and gave me a little more peace and comfort in knowing what I was getting into.”
Despite facing challenges in recent years with lackluster performances for the Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Commanders in 2021 and 2022, Wentz remained determined to prove himself in the league. His brief stint with the Los Angeles Rams in 2023 ended when the team chose Jimmy Garoppolo as Matthew Stafford’s backup.
Now, with a fresh start in Kansas City, Wentz is eager to make the most of his opportunity while providing valuable depth behind superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The one-year deal guarantees him 2.2 million dollars, with the potential to earn an additional 1.1 million dollars through incentives based on his performance and contributions to the team’s success.
