Patrick Mahomes is not just a football superstar, but an elite athlete in every sense of the word. His arm strength and athleticism have allowed him to rewrite history and win three Super Bowls before the age of 28.
While many may think that football was always Mahomes’ passion, it may come as a surprise that baseball was actually his favorite sport growing up. This is not unexpected considering his father’s own career in MLB.
In a recent interview with Time Magazine, Mahomes revealed his desire to give baseball a shot in the next few years. He expressed interest in spending spring training with the Kansas City Royals, a dream he has always had. His career plan initially included a mix of football and baseball, with the goal of playing in the MLB Draft after college.
Despite being drafted by the Detroit Tigers out of high school, Mahomes chose to pursue football at Texas Tech instead. While he impressed as a baseball player in his younger years, his NFL head coach, Andy Reid, is not entirely sold on the idea of Mahomes playing baseball just yet.
Reid jokingly mentioned that Mahomes would have to take him as a manager if he were to pursue a career in baseball. However, Mahomes reassured everyone that his focus remains on winning more Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs.
