Las Vegas Raiders General Manager Tom Telesco has been proactive in improving the team’s roster for the upcoming season.
With a strong group of wide receivers already in place, Telesco focused on enhancing the tight end position by signing veteran Harrison Bryant to fill the void left by Austin Hooper. Additionally, the Raiders are looking to involve Michael Mayer more in their offense.
The team has also made moves to solidify their running backs, re-signing Ameer Abdullah and signing Alexander Mattison to complement budding running back Zamir White. The only areas left for improvement on the offensive side are the offensive line and quarterback positions. The Raiders currently have two competent quarterbacks competing for the starting role, but they are still open to adding another quarterback to the mix.
Defensively, the Raiders have bolstered their defensive line by signing free agent Christian Wilkins, adding to a strong duo of Malcolm Koonce and Maxx Crosby. This signing gives the Raiders one of the best defensive lines in the league. The linebacker unit is also formidable, with Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo leading the way.
In the defensive backfield, the Raiders have a young group of players who have shown promise. However, there is potential for improvement by drafting a cornerback in the first round to add depth and talent to the position. The team will have to weigh the benefits of youth and value versus experience when making their decision.
Despite the moves made by Telesco to improve the roster, the Raiders’ draft day plans still remain a mystery. With multiple areas of need to address, the team is in a prime position to select a top talent at any position. The NFL Draft is set to take place in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024, with the Raiders holding the No. 13 overall pick.
