The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to revamp their running game in the upcoming 2024 season.
Head coach Doug Pederson expressed the team’s desire to reduce the workload on starting running back Travis Etienne and shift some of the responsibilities to 2023 third-round pick Tank Bigsby.
Pederson emphasized the importance of getting Bigsby more involved in the offense, stating, “We have to get Tank going, bottom line. He is too good — that’s why we drafted him. I think early he had some ‘what is that?’-type plays for whatever reason, right or wrong. Again, in and out of the lineup. He is a young player that we’re excited about.”
Bigsby had a lackluster rookie season, with only 50 carries for 132 yards, averaging 2.6 yards per attempt. The Auburn product struggled to find consistency and was often relegated to a minimal role in the team’s offense.
However, the Jaguars are optimistic that improved blocking and the return of center Mitch Morse will help Bigsby showcase his potential in the upcoming season.
With the addition of D’Ernest Johnson and the possibility of adding undrafted free-agent options, the Jaguars are looking to bolster their running back group.
The key to success lies in Bigsby’s ability to step up and make a more significant impact than he did in his rookie campaign, ultimately providing Etienne with some much-needed support in the backfield.
