The Indianapolis Colts are focusing on strengthening their secondary during this offseason with the players they currently have.
Kenny Moore II is already the top corner for the team, but some young defensive backs could make a significant impact this season if they stay healthy.
Colts general manager Chris Ballard expressed his confidence in the team’s young corners, including Julius Brents, Dallis Flowers, and Jaylon Jones. Ballard highlighted the potential of these players, emphasizing the importance of their development regardless of where they were drafted.
In his rookie year, Brents showed promise with 43 combined tackles, six passes defensed, one interception, and one forced fumble in nine games. Flowers also made an impact in his second year with 15 combined tackles, one tackle for a loss, and three passes defended in four games.
Jones, who played all 17 games last season, contributed 23 combined tackles, a tackle for a loss, and one quarterback hit. Ballard praised Jones for his performance, especially in a game against the Browns where he shut down wide receiver Amari Cooper.
While these young players may not be household names or superstars, they provide valuable support to the Colts’ defense when called upon. With their continued development and contributions, the Colts’ secondary is poised for success in the upcoming season.
