There’s been a lot of speculation in the NFL recently regarding a potential trade involving an AFC team and Michigan Wolverines quarterback JJ McCarthy.
McCarthy, who led the Wolverines to a national championship victory over the Washington Huskies three months ago, has seen his stock rise significantly in the eyes of NFL scouts. Once projected as a mid-to-late first-round pick, the 21-year-old is now expected to be one of the top choices in the upcoming draft.
According to Paul Allen, the radio play-by-play announcer for the Minnesota Vikings, the Denver Broncos are reportedly interested in making a move in the 2024 NFL Draft to secure a quarterback, with McCarthy being their primary target. Allen stated that the Broncos are so eager to land McCarthy that they are willing to offer a substantial package, which includes their No. 12 pick, All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II, and their 2025 first-round pick.
Allen expressed his shock at the level of desperation shown by the Broncos, saying, “They’re so desperate out Denver way. I’m not kidding you man. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was ‘we want that 3 so badly we will give you [pick No.] 12, we will give you next year’s 1st-rounder, and we will give you Patrick Surtain II’. I’m not kidding you. They are that desperate.”
The Chicago Bears are reportedly leaning towards selecting USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick, while the Washington Commanders are expected to choose between McCarthy, LSU’s Jayden Daniels, or North Carolina’s Drake Maye at No. 2. The New England Patriots, on the other hand, could be considering trading their No. 3 pick if they determine they do not need a quarterback.
Amid the rumors and speculation surrounding McCarthy, there have also been reports of the Buffalo Bills showing interest in acquiring another top wide receiver following the trade of Stefon Diggs.
LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers has also garnered attention on social media by suggesting which NFL team might draft him. Additionally, there are rumors circulating about the possibility of another significant wide receiver trade following Diggs’ move to Houston.
