The 38-year-old DeMeco Ryans was hired by the 49ers as a defensive quality control coach in the 2017 offseason. He was then promoted to inside linebackers coach the following year.
After Robert Saleh departed from the team in January 2021, Ryans was promoted to defensive coordinator for San Francisco. Since then, he has done an incredible job for the team.
During the 2022 regular season, the Niners conceded the least amount of points in the NFC as San Francisco clinched their divisional title. Much of their success has been down to Ryans’s tactics and setting up the defense.
San Francisco will face the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field in their NFC Championship game on Sunday.
